Dancing With The Stars - Troupe

We are told at the start of the show that this week was a bit different. The couples were challenged to dance to a song that has a strong emotional connection to them.

Before the contestants took the stage, Dancing Troupe members first performed the Paso Doble, Rumba, and Samba to show the audience what the judges will be looking for from the contestants.

Talk-show host Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani - Foxtrot

  • She picked the song “Last night a DJ saved my life.” This dance is supposed to be about her struggles at the beginning of her career and the strength it took to reach the point where she is now.

  • She looked beautiful in her long sparkly blue dress, and she looked a lot more relaxed than she did in the previous weeks. However, she had no grace in her movements, and I felt she was walking around in half of the dance.

  • Len Goodman – your story about hard work and struggling to achieve. But this was a struggle, it lacked fluidity and it was hard to watch. Sorry! (5)

  • Bruno – the foxtrot has to be long, fluid...at times you looked like you had roots. You had to deliver it with your body, not just your face. (5)

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – I do feel that we took a step backward this week. (5)

  • Total = 15

Disney star Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas – Cha Cha

  • For this personal story week, Chelsea Kane picked “Chelsea,” which is a song written to her by a former boyfriend. She wanted the dance to convey the happiness she felt when she was first surprised by the song.

  • I really enjoyed the dance (sadly, I didn't like the song at all). She seemed like she was enjoying herself. They are a beautiful couple on the dance floor.

  • Bruno – Chelse, Chelse, sexy, sexy! I could feel the excitement. (8)

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – I am a big fan of a romance, and I am a big fan of that Cha Cha. You are just adorable. Work a little on your hip action. (7)

  • Len Goodman – That is your best dance – well done! (8)

  • Total = 23

WWE Star Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke - Rumba

  • The song he picked is “Let It Be.” His mom passed away in 2005 and she was really into dancing. He played the song at her funeral, and he dedicated the dance to his mom.

  • Again, I was surprised by Chris as I was last week. I think I always expect him to do a lot worse than he does and so he surprises me in a good way each week. There were some awkward moments in the dance, but overall, I really enjoyed it.

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – that was a beautiful tribute to your mom. Your hip action was a little strange, but emotionally, great! (7)

  • Len Goodman – lost fluidity in the upper body because of the choreography. The lines and poses you did were excellent. Overall, you did an excellent job. (7)

  • Bruno – there was a naked vulnerability. You need to link the lines, but overall, I thought it was a good job. (7)

  • Total = 21

Reality star Kendra Wilkinson and Louis van Amstel - Rumba

  • She picked the song “You and Me” by Musiq Soulchild. She wanted to convey to others that they should follow their heart and do what they think is right. She wanted the dance to be about the love and relationships she shares with her husband, despite how many people did not approve of their marriage.

  • This was a hot dance! I thought she moved really well. I think she has been improving steadily from Week 1, and she can go far if she can keep the momentum going.

  • Len Goodman – unnecessary gyrating and you were unsteady with your steps. What has impressed me, however, beautiful feet and leg action. (7)

  • Bruno – It was hot and arousing. You did a very very good job. (8)

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – that was hot, hot, hot. Your leg action, hip action...hollaaaa! (8)

  • Total = 23

Rapper and actor Romeo & Chelsie Hightower - Rumba

  • He picked the song “I'll be there.” He lost two cousins at a very young age, one to a beating and another to a car accident. He wanted to dedicate the song to his cousins.

  • They looked beautiful dressed in all white. I wished he moved his hips more, but overall, I thought he did a really good job.

  • Bruno – You were really connected, involved. The foot went astray. I still believe you are a very very fine young. (7)

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – You kept your emotional connection throughout the dance. (7)

  • Len Goodman – Last week you took a huge step forward, and this week there was a huge step back. (6)

  • Total = 20

NFL wide-receiver Hines Ward and Kym Johnson - Samba

  • He picked the song “Fantasy” by Earth, Wind & Fire. This dance was supposed to be a celebration of his mom, who listens to the song all the time. His mom sacrificed a lot to raise him, and he wanted to show his appreciation of her with this dance.

  • I think Steeler-nation is going to keep Hines Ward around in the competition for a long time – good thing he is fun to watch. He missed a few steps but I thought he moved around the stage really well. He had the audience (including his mom) on their feet. He is a great entertainer.

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – Baby is back. You had the perfect bounce. Thank you – good job! (9) – first 9 of the season!!

  • Len Goodman – Carrie Ann is proud of you, your mom is proud of you, and I am proud of you. (8)

  • Bruno – this samba was an uplifting expression of happiness. It is happy-hour. (8)

  • Total = 25

Supermodel Petra Nemcova and Dimitry Chaplin - Foxtrot

  • She chose the song “You Raise Me Up.” She wanted the dancing to convey hope, as this song was what inspired her to start her foundation to help the children of Thailand who were affected by the Tsunami.

  • I thought she looked stunning and danced with a lot of grace. I loved the dancing, the choreography, and just the overall feel of the dance. Her best performance so far.

  • Len Goodman – It had grace, it had fluidity. I think you are the front-runner in the competition right now – you are it. (9)

  • Bruno – You dance like an angel. Your improvement each week is amazing. You have a beautiful heart. (8)

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – You have gone from supermodel to super inspirational dancer. (8)

  • Totall = 25

Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and Anna Trebunskaya – Paso Doble

  • The song he chose was “My Prerogative.” This dance is supposed to be about the time during his boxing career when people told him he would not make it. It is about his struggles and triumphs.

  • I loved his energy on the dance floor. This was his best performance in the show so far. A major improvement from the first two weeks.

  • Bruno – You were a raging bull, fighting tiger. You still have to work on your Spanish lines. (7)

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – I saw a lot of improvement – that was a great performance. (7)

  • Len Goodman – You come out tonight and fought back. Good job. (6)

  • Total = 20

TV and Movie star Kirstie Alley and Maksim Cherkovskiy - Rumba

  • The song she chose was “Over The Rainbow.” The song is about the time when she lost her parents and how right at about the same time her career started to take off. The dance is supposed to convey both the hopefulness and despair of that moment.

  • Sadly, the dance started rough, as both Kirstie and Maksim fell a few seconds into the dance. They got back up and finished the dance strong however. Maks later explained that he strained his thigh muscle and his leg collapsed on him.

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – You were determined to continue – I thought you did a good job. (7)

  • Len Goodman – Dancing is like life, you fall down sometimes. You got up, dusted your knee off, and kept going. (7)

  • Bruno – Once you got up, it was better than ever. (7)

  • Total = 21

Movie star Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff – Rumba

  • He chose the song “Stay Gold,” from the movie “Outsiders.” That was his wedding song and this week is his anniversary week. He dedicated his dance to his wife.

  • He has a lot of grace is his movements, and he moves around the dance floor with ease. He needed to let loose a little bit, but I thought he did great overall.

  • Len Goodman – the whole routine was crisp. You have to work on your hands and hip action. The overall look was very appealing (7)

  • Bruno – You still need to work with your hands. (7)

  • Carrie Ann Inaba – I thought it was a very sweet Rumba. You need to work on your core strength. (7)

  • Total = 21

Did you enjoy the show? Were you disappointed as much as I was that the band destroyed some of those songs?

I watched it for the first few years but stopped when they had Jerry Springer on.

Hey there! Yeah, I watched the first few seasons and stopped watching too, and just last season picked it up again. This season is actually interesting because there is no clear front-runner, which makes the show a lot more interesting.
