American Idol - Top 9 Rock 'n' Roll
65It was Rock & Roll Week on Amercian Idol!
First up, Jacob Lusk started with “Man In The Mirror” by Michael Jackson
American Idol producers need to do something about the sound system. The singers seem to have a hard time hearing themselves when they are on stage (Jacob seemed to bothered at the beginning). Anyhow, what a way to start the show. I really loved it and was jamming in my seat watching it. Also, one of the writers of the song was one of the back up singers behind Jacob - how awesome!
Steven Tyler – That was beautiful, beautiful!
Jennifer Lopez – That was a beautiful performance, perfect in every way.
Randy Jackson – I am so proud of you. That was hot.
Jacob Lusk - “Man In The Mirror”
Haley Reinhart - “Piece Of My Heart” by Janis Joplin
She has such a unique voice, so much soul in it. I thought she did great, and I feel that she has been improving each week and building momentum.
Jennifer Lopez – We're starting strong tonight. You keep going like that, you're going to be around for a minute.
Randy Jackson – You had a cool run at the end. Haley, welcome back!
Steven Tyler – I couldn't find anything wrong with that. I love it – you nailed it.
Haley Reinhart - "Piece Of My Heart"
Casey Abrams - “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival
He was rocking the bass tonight. I love his voice when I can actually hear it and he is not growling throughout his songs. I thought this was a solid performance.
Randy Jackson – Yo, you definitely made CCR proud. You are making upright base cool. Casey is revolutionary.
Steven Tyler – You're not just a singer, you're a true musician. Everytime you sing, you bring something different.
Jennifer Lopez – That's where you belong. I would pay big money to watch you.
Casey Abram - "Have You Ever Seen The Rain"
Lauren Alaina - “Natural Woman” by Aritha Franklin
She is a great performer. I enjoyed it but I am not sure this was the best (not even close) rendition of the song we've heard on the Idol stage (i.e. AI winner Kelly Clarkson slayed it in her season).
Steven Tyler – You know I love you. You have so brought it up, I loved it.
Jennifer Lopez – You're amazing.
Randy Jackson – You did a good job on it. There were past season contestants who did great with it, you did a good job with it.
Lauren Alaina - "Natural Woman"
James Durbin – “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by George Harrison
Surprisingly, he decides to go bluesy during Rock & Roll week, when all the other weeks he has gone Rock & Roll. I really enjoyed the performance, mostly because it was so unexpected and he did such a good job with the song. I love how he always puts everything into his performances.
Jennifer Lopez – Nice to see this other dimension of you. I loved it. I thought it was a great choice for you.
Randy Jackson – I loved seeing the true emotional side of James Durbin. You did a good job. Very nice!
Steven Tyler – Not only was the guitar weeping tonight, but so did you. Great job.
James Durbin - "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
Scotty McCreery - “That's Alright Momma” by Elvis
I was so happy he finally decided to do an uptempo song. He moved around the stage a lot and looked like he was having fun. Great job! There is something very charming about the kid. I think he will be going all the way into the finale. Dial-Idol has had him at the top of the pack almost every week and I don't see how things will be changing anytime soon.
Randy Jackson – Scotty is in it to win it. You can perform! This is like a new Scotty.
Steven Tyler – You brought Elvis into that. You did it well.
Jennifer Lopez – You're funny and fun. I feel a bit of flavor. I love it. I love the whole thing.
Scotty McCreery - "That's Alright Momma"
Pia Toscano - “River Deep, Mountain High” by Tina Turner
Yep, she can sing!! Wow...the only thing she still needs to work on is on her performance. I feel like she is still timid when she is moving around. I really see her going far though. She has a good chance of taking this competition.
Steven Tyler – Murder – you killed it!
Jennifer Lopez – That was amazing. You are really really special up there. I want you to study the great performers. You are spectacular, but get that performance into it.
Randy Jackson – What you showed tonight is that...you could definitely deliver on an uptempo song. Pia is in it to win it.
Pia Toscano - "River Deep, Mountain High"
Stefano Langone - “When A Man Loves A Woman” by Percy Sledge
I thought he did good, not great. I agreed with Randy more than the other two judges. Good performance overall!
Jennifer Lopez - That was beautiful. I loved it. It was amazing – magic!
Randy Jackson – I liked it, but not jumping up and down. The first part was jerky, up and down.
Steven Tyler – I like where you take it, you have a great range with your voice. I loved it, I thought you nailed it.
Stefano Langone - "When A Man Loves A Woman"
Paul McDonald - “I Hear The Train Coming” by Johnny Cash
He cracks me up when he is dancing on stage, mainly because he can't dance. This is probably my favorite performance of his. I thought he did well.
Randy Jackson – I loved it!
Steven Tyler – You are such a crazy kid. I loved it, you rocked the house.
Jennifer Lopez – I loved it. Great way to end the night.
- I think the judges were tired by the end of the night, all their comments sounded exactly the same.
Paul McDonald - "I Hear The Train Coming"
I thought all the contestants did well tonight, and I honestly don't know who will be in the bottom or who will be leaving us. Based on popularity, I think Scotty, Pia, Lauren, and James will be safe. Paul got the pimp spot (going last) so he might avoid being in the bottom this week. Haley, Stefano, and Casey all have been in the bottom 3 in the past so they might be in danger again. It is a tough call!
If you missed last week's performances...
